"www" has no special status -- like any other subdomain, it can be a completely independent website than the domain alone.
www is a subdomian, DNS redirects to a
ttl is TTL (Time to Live) is a setting for each DNS record that specifies how long a resolver is supposed to cache (or remember) the DNS query before the query expires and a new one needs to be done.
Hence when applying for lets encrypt -d should be set to the one without www
or else redirect causes
